TOURISM WORKERS TO STUDY IN LOWER AUSTRIA

The Premier of the Eastern Cape, Rev. M.A. Stofile announced at a conference held in Bisho today the names of tourism workers going to 
study Tourism Masters Programme in Lower Austria.

Speaking at the conference, Premier Stofile said, We are not in the business of training for other people but we are on business of 
strengthening our own capacity on this province.

He encouraged them to be broad minded on tourism capacity when they are in Austria saying that In the end, you are not going out for 
Certificate but to acquire information, knowledge and skills to train others when you are back, .

The names of the two workers are Miss Sindiswa Mahlangu of the East Cape Tourism Board  Port Elizabeth Office (24) and Mr. Zandisile 
Solombela (26) from Non - Governmental Organisation (NGO) at Butterworth to study towards a four year Masters Programme in Tourism 
Development at the International Management Centre (IMC) in Krems, Austria.They leave on 21 September 2000.

The Eastern Cape and Lower Austria signed a co-operation agreement in June 1998.The scholarship for the two Eastern Cape candidate students 
is funded jointly by the Lower Austrian Government, the IMC and the Eastern Cape Government.

The two provincial governments are now exploring the possibility on co-operation in two more areas of Tourism Development, namely:-

a.The opening of a Tourism School in the Wild Coast and;
 b.A two week course for fifteen Local Tourism Operations in Austria, focusing on product development and management.

The Premier met the two students today and informed them that the province was placing very high expectations on them. They should not view 
the initiative as an excursion but an opportunity to a mass skills for the realization of the growth potential of our Tourism Industry.
